It’s worse in the comics if you believe it or not. In the show it seems like Cecil is halfway responding this way out of pure fear, but in the comics he BARLEY tries to calm mark down

Yeah, I think it's a case where Cecil thinks he can control Mark through force and threats. Which is dumb. And I think he kind of know it's dumb. Mark is just too strong. But he just doesn't want to accept the method he used on everybody else doesn't work on him.

I think that's Cecil's main character flaw that's causing his downfall. He responds to any threat with massive force, and it's usually worked out for him. However, it's making him miss obvious chances for compromise or nuance

Cecil is a self fulfilling prophecy. He expects people to be dangerous and act against him so he establishes as much control, leverage, and contingencies as possible which causes people to feel unsafe and act in self defense which is dangerous to Cecil.

I get the feeling cecil has been following everything he's been taught to do for so long that he doesn't even question it anymore. He's always planning for the worst, and had the best beaten out of him. Doesn't excuse any of it, though.

I think thats kind of the point (from the comics I haven't caught up yet) he is emblematic of the older uninformed not understanding a change in modus. The older super heroes kept each other in check or so he thought. It's a fear response (imo) because it's the first time as a military authority

figure hes just been confronted slowly with the idea that there is something he can't control. Mark being younger and losing his father left Cecil thinking he was in control and could mold him. I also think it's meant to maybe mirror the relationship Mark and his dad have.

I think Cecil works really well as a metaphor for US military power both in that they have a ton of power and act like anyone advocating for a different future is a misguided child, but also only working with threats and violence. (Also how he uses former enemies like the US did after WW2)

To kinda defend Cecil he didn't lead Mark to the white room,he told him to go home & Mark followed him in & refused to leave. I'm not saying he's without fault but after the whole fiasco with Omni-Man & seeing how evil Mark became in other realities you can kinda see his logic.

I think the point is that Cecil -is- scared of Mark and has been trying to talk to him like an adult and has been being ignored. Like Cecil is just a guy. With the flashback implies there's more going on as to why Cecil is acting so weird right now. Since his behavior is so contrasting.-

I feel like knowing his backstory is the trauma and wanting to control the situation is why Cecil does everything that he does. He's a very scared man but he still wants to maintain control and won't have anyone stopping him. Like emotions get the best of everyone.

I mean, we didn't see a lot with Mark's father and Cecil, so assuming they had a pretty close working relationship, he may be very untrusting of everyone and their motives.

Like Mark didn't seem to want to talk it out and he was afraid I can understand why he took the precaution.

Your not wrong, the white room is an escalation, but i see it differently.
I see it more like, these are two sword fighters in a stand off, Mark has his sword in his hand, Cecil moving into the white room, is him unsheathing his sword. Its a defensive action, that could also be seen as offensive.
