You do know it was also Randy Johnsons number don't you? Although it wasn't retired the Mariners hadn't issued it and Ichiro called Johnson out of respect and Johnson gave permission. After Jacky Robinsons 45 the M's announced only MLB HOF would be retired. Griffee 24, Edgar 11, Johnson went as DB.
Maybe. I went to so many of Randy’s games from 1995-98, I was shocked when Woody Woodward traded him. Wasn’t so shocked when M’s traded Ichiro in 2012, since I thought the M’s did it as a favor to get him in the playoffs.
They did unofficially. The number doesn’t get officially retired until you have a mariners cap on your HOF plaque per team criteria. 19 for Buhner and 34 for King Felix haven’t been given out since their departures.
From the team - “a player must have either been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and been in a Mariners uniform at least five years, or come close to election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and spent a "substantial portion of his career" with the Mariners.”
Yeah this is a really answerable question. Randy Johnson is a Diamondback before he’s a Mariner. Didn’t play the majority of his career there. Cmon now.

Re: years… he did have another 6 seasons outside of AZ and Seattle.
I do understand what you’re saying, but again I think the bar is extremely high.
