As a fan, I think it’s unfortunate that players seem to think Boras can do no wrong. If he was getting a 6 or 7 year deal, wouldn’t that have happened by now? The $156M the Astros offered was a fair offer that would have kept him in his wife’s hometown for his career.
Sorry, Alex, it's not 2012 anymore and teams aren't buying three years of solid play for the price of three years of mediocrity and decline. That he's trying to play hardball with a team that just managed to get this exact type of anchor contract off the books (ref: Miguel Cabrera) is a choice, too.
Just curious-Question: any insight into why Brent Rooker took so little money relative to his performance? Seeing all these marquee names (Bregman, Alonso) with so-so last season and a half's struggle with FA but Rooker had an elite last 2 years and took seemingly little to stay with the A's?
Only had 1 elite year-23 was a 2.1 fWAR. Is 30 now. Would not hit FA until 2028 when he’d be 33. One bad year and he’d risk never getting what he’s now guaranteed.
Which he reportedly already has several of. Boras is not giving him good advice. At this point teams know the offers. They won’t bid against themselves. All he is doing is hurting his client at this point. If he doesn’t like the offers, take a short term 1-year deal and try again next year.
