As with everything NSO it’s not meant to be the system seller but a companion. Nobody is buying a Switch 2 for CRT filters. If anything, the GameCube addition might entice people. This is just gravy.

people are wondering why the CRT filter doesn't work on the old switch

the switch N64 emulator runs the games at 4x resolution (so 480p gets upscaled to 960p)

the CRT filter displays lines inbetween every pixel.

So if you want to have the lines inbetween each pixel, you'd need at least a 2560x1920 output resolution - that's close to 4K vertically!

Guess that explains it.

They still could render the games at 480p and add the lines though... bet people would accept the trade-off

My only guess here is that replay rewind feature requires a bit or RAM that the Switch 1 may not. Now, they need to clarify that. But of course Nintendo will never say that. This is all speculative. I guess we have to wait for a modern vintage gamer video...
