With #LPSC2025 about to start, it's time to share what I've been working on during the last months and will be presenting at the conference.
This is a new high resolution 3D model of the Mont Mercou outcrop in Gale crater, that I made during my recent internship at LPG Nantes. #planetsci π§΅

Too bad we didn't manage to do it before the end of my internship.
And he is showing me the 3D model on his computer π
You have really done an incredible work blending the model in the surrounding landscape !
You can check it out yourself on Sketchfab:

There is also a 3D-printable version you can download:

For that I've developed MarsImage, a rover image processing library written in python.
https://gitlab.univ-nantes.fr/mars-rovers/marsimage
It will also embed a lot of EXIF metadata to make the images easier to work with.
I'll be posting more about the library in the future.
The environment can be viewed in VR which gives a really good sense of scale and immersion.
Otherwise, you can already read more about this project in my #LPSC2025 abstract: https://www.hou.usra.edu/meetings/lpsc2025/pdf/2074.pdf
Juste dingue !
Ce sera accessible via quel canal pour s'immerger en VR dans le cratère Gale ?
Bravo, bravo et encore bravo !!
