The current government's seeming belief that it can continue to blame the Tories for the mess Britian is in but also refuse to take any radical steps to change things results in situations like this: a compulsory monopoly provider of essential services spending money to send us lies.

If bills have to go up to cut leaks and improve sewerage, I reluctantly accept that. If they have to go up to cover costs of renationalisation, ok.

But price increases to sustain private interests charging us for clean water is simply grotesque.

And the government's refusal to act will make people dubious that any substantial improvement in the balance between public and private interests in this country is possible.
