In the full painting an angel intervenes before Abraham could complete the act! This painting is so complex I love it

I saw this in Rome at a retrospective and it awed me. I looked at this painting the longest. The angst is clearly visible.

Caravaggio is outrageously good

Absolutely, his realism is truly unmatched ,and his ability to paint raw emotions was just on another lvl 🥰🤍⚘

Caravaggio is one of my favorite artists. He knew what it meant to be complex and complicated.
