My dad's now pushing 70 and you can argue he's in the "Cowboy Western" fandom that he was a part of since he was a little boy. Watching the same westerns he watched back then and his fantasies about the lifestyle.
I mean... yeah alright you got me. But I blame @bakuopp.bsky.social for dragging me back in here into the fandom. I am thankful, but still, I blame him xD
Fandom members over 30 usually have an amazing professional network they formed at cons. And the things you do In the fandom can go onto your resume as skills you may not have at your paying job!
I've gotten more and more intertwined with the furry community and my friends the older I've gotten. I'm in my 40s, I don't see this going away even as the explosion of young people koining continue to make me feel out of place.
I've known people who were in the fandom for a time and gravitated away. You could tell they weren't really furries at heart.
My first SO was like that; she was in the fandom for a while because she found it interesting but as soon as a new interest or hobby came along she was gone.
I always thought it was a bit heartless of her how she abandoned the social circle she developed in the fandom. Those relationships must have meant so little to her. It's no wonder we broke up.
the real fun is when people that age talk shit about people who are in the fandom past the magical age at which they believe hobbies are no longer allowed
like who the fuck do you think organises the cons and hosts the websites
I've got friends still into fandoms well in their 50s and even more. Basically, they started 30 years ago and haven't received their memo to stop. Realistically, they never will. I hope to age exactly like them.
i thought when i got older, i would get a real job and stop being a furry
i got a real job, but it's wfh, and one of my primary job duties is desperately hiding all the furry porn i've been looking at before sharing my screen
the other day i forgot to log out of steam, and while i was sharing my screen, a notification popped up on the top-right that said, "YIFF ME DADDY is playing Factorio," that was fun
This whole time I've been thinking that when I hit 30, I either have to be popular enough that nobody will care if you're cringe or else I'll have to give up my hobbies and become a normal person or else I'll be seen as gross or cringe.

Just got a new ref sheet btw. Hopefully more stickers to come.
(All this while upgrading my wardrobe to nice polo shirts.)
But really, when I thought of it, This basically has happened well before we even had the concept of fandoms with how normal it is.
