There's a vast gulf between trans and cis understanding of what it means for a trans sex worker to say she needed to sell sex to pay for surgery.
We read that the same as if a diabetic said they needed to sell sex to pay for insulin. Cis people still see our medical needs as frivolous, a choice.

Oh this does not seem to demonstrate the claim made. The only way you could think that is if you're prejudiced against the woman you're interviewing.

This week I tried to vent about the lack of NHS trans healthcare vs the costs of private healthcare to one, and was met with, "Ahh but sure why can't they be trans, but just be in the body they're in?"
Drives me nuts when people don't get that the cis equivalent of the trans experience without medical care is forcefem/masc and idk how to properly convey that to someone who hasn't had severe dysphoria
It'll probably be clumsy and hamfisted, but it's a start.
The cis character: *severe distress*
Egg character: *sudden relief, later transitions*
By and large, they believe that being transgender is a "choice"
They do not have a single cognitive reference for understanding the trans experience. So, they fall back on the idea of choice.
It's like saying "50% of adults prefer pistachio ice cream" when the sample is just you & 1 friend. Yes, it's technically correct...
The amount of people I have told about my difficulties obtaining the surgeries I need, to only have them shrug their shoulders and act like it sucks but isn’t the “end of the world”.
If it were anything but trans care, there would be outcry
I told him I knew of people attempting suicide due to covid delays.
