I legitimately believe there would be an ACT UP style storming of the NIH if they banned people’s SSRIs. It’s basically condemning them to death, on almost the same level as folks who were at risk of HIV.

I worked at NIH from 1991-1993 and it was open to all. Visited many times thereafter and only after 911 it got tough to get in.

I lived across the street from the NIH from 1997-1999 and the campus was open then. And beautiful!!! I used to drive, walk or bike across it almost daily. The wall went up some time after 9/11. Don't know exactly when, as I had moved on with my medical training by then.

The fence and security checkin didn’t happen until after 9-11. Until then you could freely drive onto or walk onto campus.

There are ways to make this happen. The campus is hardly impenetrable, especially to a vast crowd of people. But I think it's a bad idea. Once inside, the crowd would just be inconveniencing and possibly harming employees who are sympathetic to the cause. DOGE is the problem, not the NIH.
