Exactly. If the trajectory of research looks odd, IIRC it's because there was a realization 20-30 years ago that fundamental Alzheimer's understanding wasn't entirely correct & needed a lot more understanding of how glial material formed & functioned over the course of a healthy life.

It's odd, but also not weird.

This is how science works. Small, incremental changes one day pay massive dividends that nobody could predict.

By stopping even small amounts of research, we are losing untold quantities of research developments. That time will never be recovered.

So true. My mother is being treated for non-hereditary breast cancer. She's taking estrogen blockers & progesterone blockers, the latter of which is potently anti-metastatic.

The cancer researcher I work with have been throwing around the word “cure” for some new treatments for specific types of lung cancers and melanomas. The new immunotherapies are absolutely groundbreaking.

I lost my mother to Alzheimer's and I can say that the people who own memory care facilities don't want a cure. It cost my father almost 10k per month plus medications to keep her safe and cared for. Medicare or Medicaid paid nothing toward it.

And every person researching Alzheimer’s wants to solve it. Some probably have family members with it. Just like cancer, research does not want to drag anything else. They’d win a Nobel Prize for finding the solution, the cause, or a cure.
