It is perfectly possible to be assertive without being aggressive and unpleasant. I agree, women’s rights are human rights, any other view is ridiculous, but there is a difference between standing your ground and being unpleasant to the point of being counterproductive.

Absolutely. The danger is that it gives misogynists an excuse for their behaviour, they can paint themselves as victims of the unreasonable opinions of unpleasantly aggressive women. It also risks turning younger women against the feminist cause.

I've read surveys that suggest that the majority of women under 40 in UK don't self identify as feminist, although almost all state that they believe in equality. The same is true of the US. Aggressively prescriptive ‘feminists’ have a lot to answer for.

I call myself a humanist not a feminist for just this reason. I don't want women to "beat" men: I want all people to be taken on their merits, regardless of body composition. And that means looking for (and trying to show) merits rather than hostility and resentment.
