Holy crap, are you _me_? Though I have to admit I watched the '84 version and liked it before reading the book.

I agree the new one is fantastic, and Sting IS Feyd-Rautha. Watching part 2 soon.

One thing, though, the '84 shields were cooler looking in many ways.

The first season of Discovery was fantastic. And Strange New Worlds is my favorite since TNG. It's got the same vibe as TOS.

I should give it a chance. I rarely if ever put on TV or streaming for the most part now though. I tried to get into Peaky Blinders from a friends recommendation, but didn't get hooked right away. Last show I watched was Fallout

Completely this. There was so much promise in Discovery that was pissed away by the final season. I just wanted it to end.

"Lower Decks" captures the occasionally antic humor of TOS in a way that no other series has, and is funny as shit. Good candy floss TV.

I fell in love with the Sci-Fi channels version in the late 90s. It was Dune and later Children of Dune. I was afraid too. The newest really held up to 2 great previous versions

i have read the dune series like 10 times. i read dunes 1-4 every year, give or take.

Part Two is better than Part One, IMO, and of the three cinematic realizations is most faithful to the book. Villeneuve is a genius director.

The Lynch "Dune" is one of my favorite movies if only for the incredibly over the top set design and costumes, and Kenneth McMillian's Baron Harkonnen.

He did, and he captured more of the underlying horror of the Harkonnen clan that Herbert conveys in the books.

McMillen's Baron is, like everything in Lynch's Dune, creepy and over the top.

I read the books as well. I also enjoyed the first movie. I couldn't get Chalamet around my head as Paul Atreides, but the new versions are more than adequate. Particularly Zendaya.

Even as a kid it would annoy me when people complained about films not measuring up to the books. Of course they don’t! Different mediums. I think once you just stop to appreciate the idea of a different artist using a different medium to present the same concept, it’s just fun.

The books were my Jam at 16 during a pivotal point in my life. I have complicated feelings about the recent adaptations. My big takeaway is that while they are great cinematic experiences, the process of making them more palatable to a mainstream audience has taken something vital from them.
