I'll be going to Costa Rica for a few weeks, primarily to see how they managed to bring their natural rainforests back as a model for Ireland. π
So I have a request: if anyone has any eco contacts in CR they'd be willing to put me in touch with, or advice, I'd be very grateful.

His reforestation project there was one of the first.
A really inspiring place.
I also live on the Beara Peninsula and think youβre doing fantastic work both in your restoration efforts and outreach. I would however question whether restoration methods for tropical forests in Costa Rica would be in any way appropriate or relevant in Ireland. Very different ecology
And if they don't, that's just too bad as well!
It's out of the way but do NOT miss Corcovado National Park in the south. Monkeys, McCaws and other wild creatures everywhere. Have fun.

Tourism has given Costa Rica foreign revenue and jobs, but it comes at a cost to wildlife, with detrimental human-wildlife interactions.

Costa Rica and their experience would seem a great template for reversing natural habitat loss-best of luck!
Reducing emissions will achieve little without protecting and restoring natural ecosystems, and Ireland is one of the countries most in need on Earth.
Itβs all hands to the pump now mathematically, and we have to spread the message of the need to get to zero carbon as soon as humanly possible.
Situations like this require a sort of cost-benefit analysis, and I'm convinced in this case the potential benefits far outweigh the costs.
But in this case I feel that, on balance, the potential benefits far outweigh the negatives. I hope I'm right.

The climate responds to carbon emissions, not to our good intentions.
- and one that is increasingly common.
