There is a serious issue in the UK over DEFRA classifying wild boar as feral pigs in order to allow them to be shot. They are actually all the same species and 'feral' pigs soon become indistinguishable. Defra sides, usually, with landowners rather tan conservationistas

These aren't the first, or even the significant proportion of illegal releases that have happened in Scotland, so focusing in the viability of them and using it as an excuse as to why it's not related to other illegal releases is missing the point. ALL illegal releases should be condemned. 1/2

it might have seemed like a great idea to start with, but if you read that statement from Swinney you'll know it's just the straw that's broken the donkey's back and probably set licensed releases back a decade or more. I personally think that's disappointing, but I'm hardly surprised.

It's you who's missing the point here. If the aim was to scupper future proper species reintroductions (as I suspect), then it has been eminently successful.

Anyone with half a clue would have correctly predicted EXACTLY what the result would be.

That's because you choose to ignore every other illegal release that's laid the foundations to that decision. That's up to you, but I can guarantee you know it's part of the reasoning. And don't think for one minute they were the first releases of wild pigs....or lynx in Scotland.
