Give farmers the option of being paid to rewild their land, just as they are to graze it with sheep or plant it with sitka.
As things are, their only livelihood options are ecocidal. That's not the fault of farmers, but society.

@irishrainforest.bsky.social in your opinion what would be the most direct approach to rewinding such a situation?

Instead, eliminate their agricultural subsidies that we pay for, and lower our taxes instead.
Agricultural subsidies should be returned to the national level, so taxpayers can see how their taxes are paying rich rural land owners to destroy the countryside.
Sure: they should be changed, to make them fairer (big farmers get most of the money), and better for nature, but getting rid of the subsidies would be unfair, and a social disaster.
Are you really that fucking stupid that you want to stop the free trade in food?
Achieving food security without the destruction of our land and rivers by agricultural practices, and without paying massive social welfare to rich land owners is possible
We need to create a political environment that facilitates it.
Most of Irelandβs land is dedicated to beef production, and most of that is exported.
Most upland grazing is unnecessary. It strips the vegetation & topsoil, and aggravates flooding of low lying cities.
We have virtually no nature left.
Then there should be limits. Subsidies for those barely surviving, and nothing for the rest. Other unviable sectors donβt usually get propped up like this.
Also, most importantly, there should be no transfer of subsidy rights when the land is sold.
Unless that happens, nature loss will continue, eroding the very foundation of life and civilisation.
As someone practising rewilding for almost 16 years, I can tell you it requires very hard work: removing invasives, and much more.
