True, there are plenty of intelligent people that voted Trump. Example: my sister is a Sr. Mgr in Pharmaceuticals but also pro-MAGA. I think she turned a blind eye to the climate/environment/science-based concerns and voted for strong immigration policy because her and her husband are xenophobic.

What happened in the 70s? Nixon opened up trade with China. For a while there were cheap prices on hard goods here.This has been a wonderful thing for pulling people out of poverty in China, but led to loss of manufacturing and stagnant wages in the US. We should have had an industrial policy.
