Paul McCartney closing out SNL 50 with the Abbey Road medley live in NYC was pure magic. I feel so lucky to exist in a time where I get to hear him perform.

Ben, I’m over 60 and have never been a fan of him.
Recently there’s a few songs that I just can’t get out of my head.
Funny how we can change like that over the years!
I was 4. Don’t recall it. But I was an oldest child. I’m sure my folks were watching something else. Maybe Dr. Kildare or Ben Casey or My Favorite Martian. 🤷♀️
Just like Woodstock was the sun setting on the hippie generation, this SNL weekend was the sun settling on us boomers. Seeing the Paul’s (McCartney and Simon) bookend the show was the last rays of light of what could have been.
I also cried for both ...and a few other times, including the John Belushi skit in the cemetery. That one was the exact definition of irony - in the literary Greek tragedy meaning.
I’m so old I remember talking with kids at school, I was a Junior, the day after we all watched the Beatles live on the Ed Sullivan Show. Ed was creepy as heck, but he got all the newest music!
I was in first grade and my sister was a Sophomore. She was sitting in front of the TV screaming and crying and pounding on the floor. Saginaw is still having aftershocks.
Been fortunate to see Paul live several times, he always does great show. The best was Aug ‘09 at FedEx field when we brought our 9, 12 and 14 year old kids with us - magical to share him with them!
I see, in your profile, you like games. You should learn Mad Gab. It's a game, but, also, teaches "natural language".
Friends & I used Mad Gab to write songs, movies, & more. If you learn it, you'll hear it in our works, if you listen for it). It's like a "real life" game. (Products, companies, 👉
I taught Paul Mad Gab & explained how we were using it. A star student! 🌟
We also worked in other fields (electronics, food, green energy (including sustainability), automotive... essentially, we worked with anyone who came along, looking for or open to new ideas. 😄
That’s so nice. A nice distraction while we slide into fascism. This is a show to do while we are recovering not when there is a national emergency that most of the country is even aware of yet. How about a prime time special on what the fuck is going on right now???
60 Minutes surprised the hell out of me with their lead piece tonight about what's going on, in very clear and direct terms. It was impressive for mainstream media, and spelled the multi-front attack out.
I don’t know- it was the first time I laughed and felt some kind of temporary joy since probably November. You asking everyone to not feel something good feels almost as oppressive as everything else going on. Two things can be true at the same time. Fwiw, I’m wide awake.
I thought I’d missed it somehow and now I realize the recording on Hulu cut it off! Ugggh, I hate when that happens. I’m sure I can find it on YouTube.
I have always loved the Beatles but I have really been listening to them a lot. To exist at the same time as Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, etc is at least some light in the world.
Pretty amazing that this fellow has been performing for this long. Saw him in person with the Beatles twice in Cleveland. 1964 and '66. Some of the fondest memories of my life.👍♥️🎶
Closest I came to a possibly McCartney moment was on holiday wandering around Kintyre in Scotland near where his farm is, back in the mid 80s. No Internet in those days so not easy to find.
A few years ago here locally, Ringo was supposed to perform. The ceiling had issues, so they had to cancel. Instead, another local venue said "hold it! how about here?" Long story short, I got to work my bar, and had a clear view to his stage. Loved every second of it.
WDIV in Detroit news came on right after the Belushi in the cemetery bit. I thought it was a strange and abrupt way to end the show. Apparently we missed Mccarthy and what else?
Sir Paul is truly one of the wonders of the world to be enjoyed! Excellent performance last night on #SNL50!
And to brag a little, had the privilege of seeing him at a free concert in Quebec in 2008.
Big renaissance in protest/resistance music coming. Only this time, the war is at home, in your home. (Canadian here, but it's our war too. People have to organize and stand up and let their voices be heard. That is how democracies survive the totalitarian threat. It's real. People need to WTFU.
1964 the tickets, were great & 5 dollars w/tax. Syracuse, 2 yrs ago - up close - lucky, lucky! Paul has aged, so have we all but he still has it all! I am so grateful for him & all! Saw Ringo and his All ⭐️ band twice recently too - The Rolling Stones last summer Love them all but 💓Paul McCartney
The Beatles have a big place in my life and heart. Was at a Wings concert 1989. The second half he played Beatles songs. The stadium exploded. It was the best concert of my life. He gave our generation so much and is still giving.
Hmm if I look like I'm in my 70s then you really do need glasses. If you're going to attempt an insult, put some effort in.
And yeah, we can see the real you.
Funny enough, I really dislike Paul McCartney. I just didn't feel it necessary to piss on anyone's parade.
And if you think you can tell a person's age by their musical tastes, then you're a bit thick. Soz.
I danced with my late husband to Yesterday in the parking lot of Hershey Stadium when he played in PA several years ago. It’s a cherished memory now. Absolutely pure magic.
I saw his tour about 20 years ago. It was pure magic.
I was about 5 when they played Ed Sullivan. We were at my Grandparents house. I remember my Grandpa laughing at their hair cuts. Then at Christmas, Santa brought me a phonograph & a Chipmunk album & A Hard Day’s Night. I was so cool. 🤣🤣
Saw Sir Paul on his stadium tour a few years ago: magic. Tonight's SNL appearance? Well, he's *Paul* *Fuckin'* McCartney*!! but his voice was in rough form. Even given that - magic.
Saw him before Xmas in London (ringo put in appearance!). He was quite pale then - I think that’s just what happens when you get to that age. Didn’t stop him rattling through a two and a half hour set. We are so lucky to still be able to see him play live, even if “hes not as good as he used to be”!
He has hit every chart imaginable. I remember in the early 80s, black radio stations were playing his music. He worked with legendary bass player Stanley Clarke on that album.
My 6 yr old grandson, with car radio, singing (loudly) “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” today.😄. I was about 8 yrs when I first heard this. Loved it!
Abbey Road … my favourite album .. summer in NZ 1969, rocked to every song! 💙☀️💛
I'm old enough to have lived when the Beatles first became. I've heard some incredible music in my lifetime. Good to see McCartney still working his magic. Happy to hear the younger generations value it.
The Beatles where my favorite band growing up, I owned every one of their albums even though I was only 5 when they last played together. And when John was murdered it was a day that shook me.
The Abbey Road medley appears as such in its recorded form on the 1969 album. Almost the entire B-side of that album is one continuous piece of music — one of the most iconic and celebrated pieces of music in contemporary music history, I might add.
I sure noticed that. They've done presidential satire since the Ford administration. They must have not wanted to ruffle the sensitive feathers of the current Pendejo-in-Chief.
One of my claims to fame is I saw The Beatles in 1965. I watched from the top of a long and winding road in the Berkeley hills when he played The Greek Theatre. My love for Paul has spanned nearly my whole life. And The music he played has been a touchstone in tough times. We are lucky indeed.
The same feelings I had at the ‘04 Bridge School Show where Paul and Tony Bennet (RIP) performed together at the end of the evening. The lineup featured Neil Young, & included Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sonic Youth, Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals, Eddie Vedder, Tegan & Sara, and Los Lonely Boys.🤯
40 years ago, the biggest music stars in the world came together.
Contact Kendrick Lamar and encourage him to pull together a celebration of the power, creativity and the power of collective humanity to do the same to save our country, our democracy, and the world.
Watching and listening to Paul took me back to when I first saw him and the rest of the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show! Made me feel young again and yearn for the nostalgia of my youth.
I wasn’t alive then, but my version of yours was the Back in the US tour. I’m so glad I got to see him live before his voice started to go (but I still enjoy him now).
I saw him live - along with Ringo - a couple of months ago. I still can't believe it. He performed for almost 3 hours, and it was incredible and life-affirming as someone who was raised on The Beatles' music. I'll never forget it.
And on the you tube medley, one of the comments says " if I was told I had 15 mins to live, I the world was ending this is the soundtrack to sing us out". 💞 https://youtu.be/6CVsBOjeDzk?si=ZtMG65IxyfCpDVOM
Saw him in concert right before his 80th birthday. It was the best concert I’ve ever been to. He performed for 2 1/2 hours. No break no opening act.#Legend
The greatest night of my life meeting & talking with Paul. Just a reminder that the Greatest band of all time is still bring joy to a world who desperately needs it.
“The love you take is equal to the love you make”
Went on YouTube for the medley and for Paul Simon’s duet with Sabrina Carpenter. Enjoyed both. The medley will always be one of my favorite musical things. I’m glad they had both Pauls perform.
Keep singing Paul Simon and Paul McCartney! Your vocal chords may be shot, but you gave us so much over six decades, I am thankful for your spirit and joy.
That video with Belushi dancing in the snow as so macabre, he was talking about outlivng the original cast. He went thru and listed his longevity to him dancing. It was weird. He did die a couple of years later of the heroin od he assigned to Garrett Morris creepy, imho
Wow Tyler! Thank you so much for pointing that out to me! I certainly will be more astute and not ask for any help from anyone ever! I’ll just do it myself. Thank you so much, Tyler! I cannot thank you enough for setting me straight.
Funny thing my mom is a huge Beatles fan, and even though Paul McCartney is from England he doesn't like Trump. Nor would John Lennon for that matter. My mom needs to stop watching propaganda fox News. I'm appalled at my mom.
Took the wife to dodger stadium several years ago to see him in concert. Ringo showed up and you could feel to spirits of he entire Beatles. It was breathtaking. Ppl were offering 20,000 cash on the way in for my thousand dollar tickets. I easily turned them down
I watched it and suddenly I thought,"Wow!" I actually remember watching SNL in its rookie year with my parents. And the next year...and the next. Through high school & college. With my husband. Then with my own kids. SNL is part of our lives. The older you are, the more you realize it.
Comedy is art .. art is subjective .. there is no right or wrong .. I’ve been watching this show for fifty years .. to pull off a show if this magnitude was incredible .. some skits didn’t appeal so much but mostly they did .. IMHO
I see that there will be no live show next Saturday, Feb 22, so I wonder if they will cut down tonight's 3+ hr event into a 90-min "Encore/Review" show to broadcast next Saturday?
Hmm... Interesting analogy. With over 1k songs and ~100 "hits", Paul has been prolific and popular. And while Paul hasn't written any great works like a mass, symphony or opera, he has composed the majority of the songs on dozens of albums. So it's arguable he could be the rock equivalent of Mozart.

If you get the NY Times, you can see some of the funniest clips.
But what a ride this has been! 🤗
I love when we hear some old song and I look over at him and say, " 8th grade"
Fun Fact: Paul has been with his current backup band twice as long as with the Beatles.
(We were working on some projects & my BF thought Paul would be interested & helpful.) He stayed a couple hours. 😍
Paul is purely awesome. ♥️
(So is my then-BF.)

Chris was a delight.

2) As I mentioned, he looked a bit wan and may have been sick
3) It’s a tough medley to sing and he usually plays it at the end of his shows; perhaps his voice was not sufficiently warmed up
4) He’s almost 83
Take your pick.

The White Album had some of their strongest pieces.
But, Abbey Road - Side II = Their masterwork.
Thanks for the reply, always nice.
“The love you take is equal to the love you make”
His offer was it had to be all four Beatles, and they had to play 3 songs.
Surprisingly, they didn’t take him up on it?
Such a well done show. Giving airtime credit to behind the scenes folks clearly a classy move…
Very cool.
I saw the Beatles at old
Forest Hills Tennis Stadium
Concert before Shea.
Was 11 years old.
Watching history tonight was incredibly humbling given what is happening in the World-at-large.
I'm verklempt!
I had to do some very fancy talking to get the $12 for two tickets! That was the cost of groceries for a week. Lol
I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, but I think there was only 30 minutes that were genuinely funny. But maybe I'm just wrong.
I do hope the late night rebroadcast WON'T censor things that were censored in the Prime Time broadcast, like the Ricard Pryor sketch...
