For those curious it’s basically sports massage but with a myofascial release approach. My muscles lock up every time I sleep and the cycle begins again so I’m essentially gonna get ironed out by hand. Hate this for me but glad I’m narrowing down a path to relief. This sucks!

Has started relieving the pain on the right side and man what a difference!! I get the left side done this week. Not sure if steroid injections would help your issue as well (I've also had them for sciatica/bulging discs in my lumbar spine) and they gave amazing relief there too. Initial side-

Effects can kinda stink, but they subside shortly and the end relief is absolutely worth it. (And everything is covered by my insurance.)

I hope the massage and release helps you out and relieves your pain! Back pain is no fun to deal with, and really takes it out of you!

Glad you were able to get some help! I don’t think injections are in the cards for me at this time since it’s my muscles and fascia reacting to each other so it would provide relief but not fix the root cause, I’d just be back to where I was. Fortunately I’m told this seems solvable

That's fair, hopefully them ironing you out by hand will fix the root issue and give you relief! That sounds super painful to have everything lock up while you sleep and start the cycle over again every day! That does sound promising that they feel it's a fixable issue at least!

If it doesn't help enough there is something that IS often covered by insurance if it's done through a physical therapist - I was suggested dry needling if massage did not help my neck locking up.

I feel like in some people anything that adds an electric pulse has the potential to backfire but that's just pure opinion (partly based on the hell that was my nerve conduction study LOL).

It was the one thing that seemed to be helping me so ymmv! But it only did so much. The whole acupuncture thing felt like a bunch of woo tbh (the plain needles did nothing) but I am being open minded as can be to try anything that works. I’ll check this out if the myofascial massage doesn’t help

Dry needling is different from acupuncture and as far as I am aware is actually considered more medically sound for the purposes it's prescribed, at least when done at a medical office. I lost track of all the stuff I dug up on it when it had been recommended to me, but I ended up not needing it.
