Only somewhat related, but why are transphobes so insistent on people NOT changing their gender? Feels like an artificial way to restrict ourselves for no reason. Why can't we just, ya know, change if we want to?
I mean, even if it's not actually said in the manga, the fact that one of the protag of MW is a "gay man" who don't mind wearing woman clothes, make me really think that Yuki was either gender fluid or enby, and it came out in 1976.
I don't remember the character being fan of the revue, it's been a while since I read the manga ^^'. But tbh, with the history of Tezuka, it's not surprising to have progressive ideas in his stories. Black Jack, MW, Astro and Kirihito are just exemples of that.
i met someone who pointed out (ranted about) how those tezuka drawings showing furry transformation art showed people transforming as such a euphoric and happy/joyfull thing, and it's cool to see that's its kind of a pattern in his works
i don't really know a lot about astro boy but i've read a little bit and the hot dog corps story really stuck with me bc the dog character that was kidnapped to be turned into a humanoid cyborg was able to become a dog again (albeit still as a cyborg) and live a happy life
The protagonist of Princess Knight is a girl born with "both a boy's and a girl's heart" and raised as a boy, and that manga was published in the 1950s.

But yeah, Tezuka's one of the all-time GOATs in any conceivable medium.

Neo-Nazis have a very narrow, VERY boring definition of "beautiful."
Also, having not read this before I learned something new about Pluto and Brau 1589.
