For a nice cold beer you can try little Martha's microbrewery. They also have a good producer who turns up, or new Bristol brewery. A little further walk from temple meads but worth it. 🍻

We've never seen food being served at Little Martha's but maybe we just haven't been at the right time. Anyway (per the post) our correspondent wanted a meal, not street food from a truck or pop-up or whatever, and that's the decline/change we're interested in.

Doesn't fulfil the "pub grub" range but I had great, cheap Mexican food in the Ill Repute on Old Market the other day. Old Market Assembly an option too.

We're getting comments along the lines of “What's wrong with rolls and pies!” But if you're on a pub crawl, or with family or friends, you do sometimes want to actually eat. And stay in the pub.

There's a fair few pubs in the Worcestershire and Herefordshire countryside that keep to old hours - lunch till two, dinner from six, nowt in-between. I've seen many a family come off the hill and walk into a pub salivating at the thought of a pint with cheesy chips then swiftly walk out confused

When we lived down in Penzance (2011-2017) it was quite unusual for pubs *not* to have food... during the summer. We used to watch people tramp into The Star Inn at Crowlas *assuming* there would be food, and being baffled when there wasn't.

It's that assuming bit that's the kicker and I guess the fault/side effects of the model of big pub cos/chains that so many assume that a pub does food by default. If I'm somewhere I'm not familiar and need to eat I'll head to Fullers,a Greene King etc and accept a boring pint

Unfortunately what I'm seeing in Ireland is a lot of places using the same food supplier and I am pretty sure meals are just assembled now, this keeps costs low and the majority are probably happy enough. 🙃
