I'm hearing in recent days there's an unusually intense spike in US journalists, after a long time of disinterest, now seeking comment in great numbers from leading US trans activists, organizers, writers and commentators on the present political situation. This is alarming for a variety of reasons.

Have a little patience with your trans pals right now, especially when we're a bit grumpy about more distant fears (coming recession, future elections, etc.).

I must admit my response to such is "that's awful, but also I'm worried about losing friends/jobs/healthcare and being imprisoned sooner"

Cis here. Shortly before she died last year (in a context that's a *long* story I won't go into) my mother expressed disgust at transvestism. I was startled b/c I had never encountered anyone who (much less anticipated that she) felt so strongly about that topic...(1/x)

She was absolutely more accepting of gay couples, so yeah, while I can't pretend to understand that point of view even a little, I now recognize that specific vitriol exists.

In addition to keeping vulnerable trans kids from receiving (possibly) life-saving healthcare, they're starting to extend that to adults too. Trans people are not the only group who are facing significant risk right now in the US (they're rounding up our immigrant neighbors, sending them to Guantanamo Bay, and making "ASMR" videos about it already) but we're one of these groups. And we're (speaking from personal experience) really scared.
