I don't like the way how it is a buzzword now and everyone and their grandmothers has to use generative AI to have a career. However I do occasionally use it to spellcheck, as English is my second language, or rephrase things, when I feel myself lacking. Never use raw data tho or use it for research
I would actually recommend against that if you're using something to re-word your stuff, instead of using an actual spell check or searching the word on a dictionary web site. Not because I hate gen AI (I mean, I do) but because it can often times just up and lie about even spelling and definitions.
I'm trying to learn a couple languages, and it is genuinely much more applicable to search a dicitonary website. Your sentences may not sound the most natural at all times, but AI can actually make it even worse if you let it re-word things.
Oh when I use it to reword things I don't straight up use what it gives me, that sounds too inorganic. I change it up as need, and check if I don't know the words it uses etc :D not something I do often, but helped me when I prepared my cv sound more corporate.

Generative AI needs to be outlawed, it's just straight up theft with a "lack of having a law yet" loophole. AI in itself is cool for like helping (for example) solve medical stuff like that one ai that's helped solve complex proteins for vaccines with (obviously) supervision of scientists.
Yeah, a shit of load of procedurally generated false information from generative AI chatbots and "helpers" is a unique problem teachers are going to have navigate with Gen Alpha and I'm not sure there's a good solution to it because AI is getting pushed so hard from every direction

The in-class attendance assignment we had in my favorite class on Tuesday was to send a screenshot of a time we used ChatGPT. It was very disheartening to see a channel full of eager screenshots :( I’d choose to lose points before choosing to using AI any day

Huh, it’s definitely less weird then. Still a little strange, considering how many people dislike AI and so won’t have used it. Or maybe that’s just the perspective I get from the types of communities I’m in/people I follow. There are probably people who aren’t aware of the discourse surrounding it.
Oh a LOOOT of my peers majorly use it as a crutch (four-year undergrad research university). Mostly STEM people as I’ve noticed, but I’m reluctant to entirely generalize. I have seen other English majors fall into the pit too.
I’m always eager to discuss the ramifications of AI usage whenever it’s brought up and it always surprises me how much of what I say is news to people.
It’s funny you say that, because I’m a developer and I hate it. Maybe I was predisposed to disliking AI due to the fact that I also write and have always loved creative pursuits. Then again, it’s use in coding just doesn’t interest me all that much.
