My mediums are color pencils, paint on wooden instruments, and some needle work.
My anxiety and depression is at its worst during the night. So, I use Janitor Ai and sometimes Chat GPT instead of keeping family or friends up at night.
i was discussing ways to study for an upcoming test during class and one of the other students suggested using chatgpt for it like no thanks id rather die
I hope you mentioned that even when you ask it for sources, it lies, and gives you sources that don't exist. Even when you ask for links! That person sounds genuinely uninformed rather than an AI shill if that's the first they've said about it. Obviously not your job to educate, but like, ya know.
Happened to me when I saw an indie artist I'm really into and know they could just draw for the music video better than the gen ai used... Just disheartening to see
I don't like the way how it is a buzzword now and everyone and their grandmothers has to use generative AI to have a career. However I do occasionally use it to spellcheck, as English is my second language, or rephrase things, when I feel myself lacking. Never use raw data tho or use it for research
I would actually recommend against that if you're using something to re-word your stuff, instead of using an actual spell check or searching the word on a dictionary web site. Not because I hate gen AI (I mean, I do) but because it can often times just up and lie about even spelling and definitions.
I'm trying to learn a couple languages, and it is genuinely much more applicable to search a dicitonary website. Your sentences may not sound the most natural at all times, but AI can actually make it even worse if you let it re-word things.
Oh when I use it to reword things I don't straight up use what it gives me, that sounds too inorganic. I change it up as need, and check if I don't know the words it uses etc :D not something I do often, but helped me when I prepared my cv sound more corporate.
Corridordigital has been kinda iffy with their stance of being kinda supportive of genai and i just had to unsubscribe because I didn't like creatives being lenient on the subject that directly threatens their work
I'm studying for the final exam before I can finally work as a teacher, and a lot of my classmates use chatGPT. I fear for the future that awaits their poor students
Always horrid seeing someone cheery and friendly getting into AI and just posting the most terrible low effort slop in their Good Morning and Nice Weekedn posts.
Generative AI needs to be outlawed, it's just straight up theft with a "lack of having a law yet" loophole. AI in itself is cool for like helping (for example) solve medical stuff like that one ai that's helped solve complex proteins for vaccines with (obviously) supervision of scientists.
Yeah, a shit of load of procedurally generated false information from generative AI chatbots and "helpers" is a unique problem teachers are going to have navigate with Gen Alpha and I'm not sure there's a good solution to it because AI is getting pushed so hard from every direction
This is like... a foundational mistake. ChatGPT isn't a search engine. I don't know why someone would believe otherwise unless they just fundamentally didn't understand what it is.
No they donβt, Iβm sorry to tell you this but most people donβt understand how things work nor do they care. When you give them something called artificial intelligence they think that itβs intelligent, especially young people and old people. π
Everything else about this issue like 'just' burning up the amount of energy of a whole household for a day for one query or guzzling liters of water? I would say this is equally important.
The speculative datacenter building expecting huge growth in demand for AI is/was concerning, but companies are now increasingly realizing that the demand is not as high as expected and scaling their plans down:
To sum up the power usage: With a reasonably sized model and a good GPU, it only takes a few seconds to respond to a query, maybe upwards of minutes with really big models and reasoning models.
The GPU has a fixed max TDP, and playing a demanding game for the same amount of time would use the same.
If "getting UBI implemented in the United States, while it's still the United States with this system of governance i.e. no violent revolution with guillotines" is the only solution out we're fucked and doomed because there is zero chance of that happening.
There is an equal chance of this governmental structure successfully implementing UBI as there is of me solving economic problems by figuring out how to conjure solid gold out of thin air with my mind. You might as well wait for aliens to come along and save us.
I have watched the US government do nothing but make it harder to be poor every single day since the 2008 crisis. They did one little teeny incremental improvement with the Affordable Care Act and ever since then it has been "nothing will fundamentally change" no matter where public opinion resides
the united states is dying. whether or not it specifically implements UBI is irrelevant because a civil war is coming first regardless of whether it tries to
I think it is very important to underline that I have no problem with this technology like...spiritually. on the level of what it *is*. I have a very big problem with this technology on the level of what it will *do*, to the job market and to the continuance of artistic expression.
Or maybe, just maybe, we took a look at the numbers for energy and water consumption and figured it's pretty bad. Nah, can't be true, obviously we are just braindead morons wanting to do an online discussion, everybody except you has no real thoughts
ok despite australian you seem to have american reading comprehension skills i see ok dont worry
what i mean is the "knee-jerk reaction"-based "activism" towards AI is The Same that is seen in fanfiction spaces, in regards to problematic subjects in fiction, etc.
thank you finally someone tells me i'm stupid instead of heaping me with praise for getting good grades or having a high score on an IQ test amazing that it took arguing for a long-standing discipline of computer science for anyone to do so
as i said deeper in the thread, i despise being called smart. so i mean this entire post sincerely, and only wish that it was over something that i know people are very misinformed on
The in-class attendance assignment we had in my favorite class on Tuesday was to send a screenshot of a time we used ChatGPT. It was very disheartening to see a channel full of eager screenshots :( Iβd choose to lose points before choosing to using AI any day
Looks like thereβs a way to save/archive past exchanges in ChatGPT? Not the kind of feature I would have expected but I guess that kind of informs the ask a bit more. Absolutely not something I would have considered
Huh, itβs definitely less weird then. Still a little strange, considering how many people dislike AI and so wonβt have used it. Or maybe thatβs just the perspective I get from the types of communities Iβm in/people I follow. There are probably people who arenβt aware of the discourse surrounding it.
Oh a LOOOT of my peers majorly use it as a crutch (four-year undergrad research university). Mostly STEM people as Iβve noticed, but Iβm reluctant to entirely generalize. I have seen other English majors fall into the pit too.
Iβm always eager to discuss the ramifications of AI usage whenever itβs brought up and it always surprises me how much of what I say is news to people.
Itβs funny you say that, because Iβm a developer and I hate it. Maybe I was predisposed to disliking AI due to the fact that I also write and have always loved creative pursuits. Then again, itβs use in coding just doesnβt interest me all that much.
This so much this. I considered arguing with one of the shills here and then realised I'm just gonna block them anyways so they won't see what I'll say to them.
So I just... Blocked. Turns out the nuclear block helps being less toxic
Oh I kinda assumed the post was referring to offline. Or at least off social media specifically. I'm in my last term of uni, when I mention how swamped I am classmates suggest I ask/use chatgpt and I just tweak
Comments
literally every other lab has a project about getting chatGPT to do stuff now and I'm just π€¨ at it
Unless your willing to replace this tool for those like me you sound rather negative and lack correct information
I am a traditional artis. I don't use Ai to generate art or write stories
My mediums are color pencils, paint on wooden instruments, and some needle work.
My anxiety and depression is at its worst during the night. So, I use Janitor Ai and sometimes Chat GPT instead of keeping family or friends up at night.
you'll block me but i'm right. reactionary bullshit is reactionary
Everything else ethically about this issue is lower-priority than this practical and immediate concern. https://bsky.app/profile/gyro.bsky.social/post/3lgvrvsqzwc22

Training does use more power ofc, but even when you price that into each query, it is still minimal.

art was a starvation job long before LLMs entered the picture and if you don't know that then you're intentionally blinding yourself to reality
the big genAI scare only distracts from real nuanced discussions of AI and its implications
ppl of course like it cuz it makes them feel they're doing something good, fighting the gold fight, when it's all slacktivism
reminds me of Other online discourse...
what i mean is the "knee-jerk reaction"-based "activism" towards AI is The Same that is seen in fanfiction spaces, in regards to problematic subjects in fiction, etc.
Ask your machine to plagerize you a story so you can calm down
maybe consider that your hate of computers is irrational
it sucks.
doing something your bum-ass self instead of goading the computer into scraping data to do it for you.
if you didnt write it yourself it's not worth reading. if you didn't draw it yourself its not worth viewing.
... To be fair learning how to use a program and then do something really goofy with it IS in my character though. So like I'd do that just for fun...
So I just... Blocked. Turns out the nuclear block helps being less toxic
