I agree. The other day I introduced myself to someone and reached out for a handshake without thinking for the first time in years and I immediately felt like βwhy is my hand out??β and I could sense the hesitation in the other person and itβs been haunting me since. Ugh.
I'm still nonplussed by the elbows thing. Couldn't we have just nodded or whatever? Was it absolutely essential that people make physical contact with each other?
A couple of opera companies I sing with started doing consent stage training post-pandemic, and the number of people who look shocked in those exercises when I say "no, please don't touch me" after they ask permission still amazes me.
It's the whole point of the exercise! Don't touch me!
