One side effect of the GOP constantly blasting "welfare queens" and the like is your average American tends to think the social safety net is much more generous than it actually is. They're shocked when they're suddenly homeless and find out they're not going to get stuff like free housing.
I always remind myself that I'm a missed paycheck or two away from being unhoused myself...
Anytime you see someone living on the streets, people should always think "This could easily be me"...
Most people in the US are one or two paychecks away from homelessness. There is an affordable housing crisis, RealPage is part of the problem, gentrification is another. There's so many factors. I'm on the Equity Advisory Committee part of our statewide housing plan in Michigan.
