Counterpoint: Gabriel is extremely proud of his own "purity" and self control. He sees himself as above all that kind of stuff and I think it could be satisfyingly vindictive for Sisyphus to say things to get Gabriel flustered, proving that he's no better than those he's judged so harshly.
