Happy new week friends... Love watching Northern Harrier's fly low across fields looking for a good field mouse or vole. You can't help but admire their work ethic. #birds #ohbirding #Nature #wildlife 🪶🦉

I saw some for the first time, that I know of, a couple weeks back. That’s exactly what they were doing, while a number of humans with long lenses tried to get a cool shot like this one
I took this shot from my car window with a decent lens and got very lucky the bird kept flying closer and closer to the road. But I’ve had them almost hit me on walking trails, coming up over the marsh dike. They are so fun to watch hunt.
I had no lens to speak of, just my usual phone camera which is no good for this. So I just sat in the car and watched the pair of them do their thing. To almost get hit by one! That would be startling but also really neat. A close up view is a treat
indeed, it happened so fast there was no time to snap a photo, rather, just appreciate the experience. I've also photographed them tussling with short-eared owls in the past-those those shots are more memory inducing than flattering to either bird.
I know what you mean, lots of my photos are to that purpose rather than for sharing due to their artistic value. Even if you have good equipment and are at the ready, there’s a lot of luck involved esp where wildlife is concerned
