this star is called woh g64 and itβs located about 160,000 light-years away in the large magellanic cloud! it was observed with the very large telescope interferometer.
itβs called the βbehemoth starβ because itβs 2,000 times the size of the sun!
the details in the image are mind-blowing!! you can see the gas and dust surrounding the star as it sheds its material leading up to an eventual supernova!! π₯
As amazed as I am about JWST and all the neat things we've discovered with it, I'm more interested and excited for the Nancy Grace Roman telescope; full spectrum images with a much larger set of mirrors! She just passed inspection!
