What we don’t understand is why our cameras pick the color up better than our eyes do.

The sensors in our cameras are very powerful and can pick up on low light images. It's kind of like night vision in a way! The longer time a camera can take a picture, the more light it will absorb. They can also do the opposite where they can see details on really bright objects (with a filter)

Those pictures are directly from my phone camera looking north and upward. No editing was done.

Captured in Southern Minnesota. Would have been clearer if I didn't have to deal with high clouds
