There is something wrong with these persons who don’t have any empathy. They are defective human beings. Whether at birth or later damaged psychologically. They are just not like the rest of us.

And they certainly don’t need to be in charge of the safety and welfare of their fellow countrymen.

Oh wow!! This is very enlightening. When I was 17, I was a very big fan of Ayn Rand. I read all of her books and made notes in the margins, then I grew up and recognized how utterly selfish and immoral her philosophy was. I could not live a life without empathy. I guess some people never grow up. 🙁

I have a picture of two pet mice I had during a prior election cycle. They'd squabble over food and resources, but at the end of the day, would groom each other and curl up and sleep next to each other. I had opined that they were much better than politicians, as they actually cared for each other.

It may be biochemical, but the real problem is our society doesn't know how to deal with them. Even though they are a small minority, they have an outsize role. Read the book Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy, it is a mirror for what is happening and how it can be dealt with it.
