Not sure if it was you or another troll picking a fight, but I did point out the Fairness Doctrine faced legal and political challenges since the late 1960s, which blocked its extension to new media like cable. Those major lawsuits were before CNN launched in 1980 as the first cable news network.

The Fairness Doctrine was repealed in 1987. The Rush Limbaugh Show launched in 1988. However, it is true that Fox News wouldn't have been subject to it because:

1. It debuted 9 years later, and
2. The doctrine was never allowed to extend to cable because it faced GOP pushback since the late '60s.

The Fairness Doctrine could only apply to holders of broadcast licenses as per Red Lion v FCC.

It was revoked because of the ruling in Meredith Corp v FCC.

False. No court case prior to its repeal ruled or "made it clear" that it would be unconstitutional to extend the Fairness Doctrine. However, by 1986 the SCOTUS leaned 7-2 in favor of GOP President's appointees. It would have been a matter of time before it would be declared unconstitutional.

Please read Red Lion, Pacifica, and Playboy vs. US. All three spell out quite clearly that the FCC's content regulation authority is allowed *only* due to the unique nature of broadcast and would not be permitted on any other media.
