We jokingly discussed a horror story where travelers leave a place, then get routed by GPS further and further off the beaten path, to somewhere like a national forest where they eventually lose cellphone coverage, GPS, and run out of gas on a dark, two-lane road.

I wondered what would happen should I lose cell service, and with it, the maps on my phone.
- There were a large number of memorial crosses lining the road.
- The road twisted about, with a sizable drop-off along one edge.
- The speed limit was 55 mph.
- There was very little traffic in either direction.
So, where were the cell towers, anyway?
