again going to my bench of favorite complaints: it is weird how openly predatory US culture is and it would be good to have a government that feels some semblance of responsibility for people's wellbeing

Ideally there's mutual benefit to the cooperation and transactions.. The reality is folks trying their best to eke out the maximum benefit for themselves to the detriment of others, even if they have to interact again later.
corporations can get away with absurd treatment of workers and consumers through the convenient fiction of long, unread contracts.
employers and conservative politicians can bust unions through “right to work” laws.
all the way down, our legal structures facilitate exploitation to sap working people’s wealth and dignity.
