1/2 IMHO it's OK as long as Starmer's detailed negotiators keep to a brief of cosying up to their US counterparts, and their leader, but never committing to anything which specifically excludes development of trade with the EU.

Consider the grievances surrounding Brexit. - He will be able to refer to the Citizen's sentiment. The latest poll I could find says 55% is against Brexit.

When Parliament debated Brexit the Europhile PLP demanded change from lifelong Europhobe Corbyn. Shadow Brexit spokesman Starmer did SFA to modify Corbyn. As PM he'll believe he can be equidistant between the EU and USA - playing into Trump's hands to the long term detriment to Britain.
