Geez. @axios.com - you couldnβt find a better pic of Pete when covering his interest in the Senate seat? This is not an article about him taking the kids sledding. Your photo editor is full MAGA? Do better.
I like Newsom, but running the governor of California (as much as I personally love Cali) will not be popular. Thereβs been a deluge of nationwide media ripping California for staggering high cost of living, homelessness, crime, cleanliness, etc. True or not, itβs fodder for the right.
Lol, theyβre not fooling me. I think California is one of the best things about America. Itβs not perfect, and it has its own problems to solve like literally absolutely anywhere, but itβs a critical part of the American identity.
I just think the right has been really successful at demonizing it.
Agree in part , but heβs the very definition of the masculine power broker the GOP admires. Will be hard to disparage that. Baggage, yes, but he can talk his way out of most of it with facts or lessons learned. If not him, someone with the same image for want a chance.
Above all, we need a person that is able to take trump on one on one and fight his bigotry and nastiiness with precise response, and Newsom is one of the best at that right now.
You are right on that but I like Newsom because he is strong in his resistance to trump. I can't think of too many other politicians that are quite as good, but if there are some, I would love to have them in the running also. We need a good hard solid anti-trump desperately.
Do you think thatβs what the left have been doing? Theyβve been sucked into gop talking points for years. Everything is a response to gop where is the leadership?
He wonβt be governor, and his record may or may not hurt him, but heβll be years removed from it, which will help, would be more concerned about Pete, heβs a gay man, and if this election taught us anything, racism, sexism, homophobia drive voters more than we thought
Sadly, I think heβs right. The right dances around the issue, they know being overtly anti-lgb is a losing issue, so theyβre being a little more low-key. Going for lgbt books, public representations (flags), and banning its discussion in schools. And our countryβs trans people are under attack daily
I would love to have Newsom run for President in 2028, however, if Buttigieg runs and gets the position of Senator from Michigan...Newsom will need another VP in my opinion. Otherwise, good slate.
I would have loved to see a Buttgieg/Walz or a Walz/Buttigieg ticket... A Rhodes scholar with military and executive experience paired with America's dad who is more than willing to call out bullshit and actually serve his constituents would be a 1-2 punch.
This man is very clever and eloquent in his fact based responses to media questions. He has a ready understanding of any given situation and can respond with alacrity and aplomb.
buttigieg's a bog-standard empty suit dem and kind of a slimeball, the only noteworthy things about him is that the establishment inexplicably loves him(red flag) and he spent his 2020 campaign pretending to be obama
Well, heβs extremely erudite, persuasive, knows what heβs talking about and I could go on. You, on the other hand fail to make any sort of argument. You just throw mud.
He's not either erudite or persuasive, it was a running joke in 2020 that he could only talk in vague platitudes that didn't mean anything. The establishment wants to coronate him as the next Big Guy but he's screwed up every chance they've given him.
Of course the Smoky Backroom Council's opinion matters more than his actual political or administration skill so he'll probably be forced through eventually, just don't expect anything of substance from him
It's 100% a carpetbagger situation. He owns a home in Traverse City and hasn't spent time here serving Michiganders. It would be a bummer if better Michigan public servants got overlooked for him.
But yeah, I mean...everyone in these comments screaming about how great he would be...when he hasn't spent a day serving Michiganders IN Michigan...like there are better candidates.
I believe they live in Niles, MI, which would make sense because if there wasnβt a sign saying welcome to Michigan you couldnβt tell if you were in Niles or South Bend
Yep. Classic Liberalism (not you). This is the guy who proudly exclaimed "Medicare for All Who Want It!!!" which is a deliberately self-sabotaging thing.
The effectiveness of nationalized healthcare is in stripping bureaucracy, and in bargaining power.
Absolutely! In the meantime, Pete should give current Dem politicians clandestine lessons in effective messaging and fearless media presence. On the other hand, I wouldn't blame him if he left the country for the safety of himself and his family.
I had no idea that the best Sen that Michigan has had for years is retiring .The People of Michigan will miss him . I hope that Pete can replace Gary .
This corporate rainbow asshole helped rig the 2016 primaries against Bernie Sanders and sealed the deal with ending with Trump and y'all still like him? No wonder why we have Trump.
Sorry, thank you for the correction. You're right. He first began running in 2018/2019. That year is blurry for me as we went into the pandemic right after that.
Pete is great but Iβd like to see @mallorymcmorrow.bsky.social go for it. They are both extraordinary generational talents, but she has put in the real work in Michigan to make peopleβs lives better. Also Michiganders like to elect women.
He absolutely MUST go for it - prior to the election, he was without a doubt one of the most active, hard working Democrats out there, even going into the lionβs den (Fox) numerous times. America needs a fearless but principled and caring person giving the best service they can.
Heβs only been living full time in Michigan since 2022. Why would voters in Michigan pick him over someone native (or at least with a long track record of service in that state)?
Michigan & Pennsylvania are in a huge fight between rational humans trying to make things better & screaming banshees who want to punish people for their lot in life.
Do it ! Do it! Senator Pete sounds really good. You already live here, and everyone already loves you. You will Win! You are one of us and we trust you! Please do it!
A solid, serious and well-informed person who can bring fire power to reinforce the Democrat Senate. And representing the great State of Michigan is such a privilege.
Itβs more than frustrating when 100% of the seats I voted for went to very VERY stupid magachuds because the Dems just gave up on Indiana. This place is not a lost cause,it just looks like it is because apparently corn fields vote red on gerrymandered maps?
The Dems definitely to stop the crap, no doubt there!! May I suggest something? Indivisible is a great organization that can help streamline contacting state and local government as well as national. See if there is a group in your area and FIGHT BACK! BTW, I love Indiana. https://indivisible.org/
I was hoping after the inauguration he would jump in. Iβm sure he is carefully deciding how he wants to engage now. Whatever he decided, heβs got my support!
I like Pete he is not afraid to go into the belly of the beast meaning Fox News and taking the weaklings down. We need more dems to cross over to unfavorable networks and taking them on. Because just going on MSNBC doesn't work preaching to the Choir....
Pete will always have my support. If only he were president the world would really see a Golden Age in America. Gold comes in a ππππ of colors. It costs nothing to have realistic aspirations.
I like how you feel about the borders. I am old enough to remember Pierre Elliot Trudeau proposing that North, Central & South America become one without borders. One America. What a dream that was but Washington was frightened it could not control wealth in it's interest. It's always about money.
Ravin, I have tried 2 Google this without any success but in my 79th year I remember hearing him say this on a talk show. I swear I'm not making this up. I was in an affair with a person frm Mexico & I remember at the time thinking this would make our getting together much easier. A United America.
My trust is that if uneducated deplorables can get past the fact that someone is gay, a person of colour, a woman we might get 2 choosing who is right for the position of President based on his/her qualifications & understanding of the Constitution how it was written 4 everyone & not just the rich.
What more can I say? Pete Buttigieg has proven his worth as Lieutenant in Military Service, Mayor of South Bend Indiana, United States Secretary of Transportation, Dedicated Father & Husband, Graduate of Harvard College, University of Oxford, Presidential Candidate & Literary Author. Good looking 2.

YES, PLEASE.
PRETTY PLEASE.
Why do you just assume?
Nothing against Buttigieg, but the Dems need to hold both Michigan senate seats
I just think the right has been really successful at demonizing it.
Truly, all I want is for MAGA to be thrown out of US government, and part of that is being strategic about who we run.
"I wouldn't π© you, you're my favorite turd."
Womp womp.

Too bad I can't vote in Michigan.
But would happily live in Benzie or Saugatuck.
But yeah, I mean...everyone in these comments screaming about how great he would be...when he hasn't spent a day serving Michiganders IN Michigan...like there are better candidates.
pls runπππ¦π
Her great grandparents suffered because good people compromised on key human values.
One would think she understood that accommodating fascists always leads to a bad end.
