It seems clear that some people in the Trump administration are pursuing an "isolate China" trade strategy. But is Trump himself on board with this? I'm not so sure. He seems pretty focused on things like the absence of Ford F-150s on European roads!
Moreover, if the US remains a liberal democracy, the Trump regime will be gone in four years. No country will anchor its industrial or trade policy on a short-term political shift. Sustainable foreign and trade policy must be bipartisan. Small countries have known this for a very long time.
The US under Trump allows human rights violations to pass and undermines institutions that protect democracy. This is not indifference, this is a choice. And whoever normalizes this is helping to destroy the liberal world order. Not everyone will be lulled to sleep.

"I don't see any strategy at all, sir."
