okay this is gonna sound dumb but I have never owned an Xbox. What is Game Pass. Is that like an online store? Why do people get hyped when something specific comes to Game Pass? Is that not the same as just... buying the game normally?

Others have already pretty much covered this but yeah if you're a Subscriber, every time a game lands on Game Pass you get it "for free". Not technically free cuz you're paying for the subscription but it often feels that way.
There's also lots of ways to game the system with the subscriptions, they do free trials and $1 months and stuff like that, so if you time it right you can sometimes get a game literally for free
Xbox has also committed to putting their published games on Game Pass on launch day. So like if a new Halo or Indiana Jones comes out, everyone who has Game Pass just gets it day 1 without having to buy anything.
Insane deal for consumers and an impossible business model for Xbox 😂
That is actually crazy lmao. I feel like if I had an Xbox I would be subscribed to this. I tend not to buy new consoles unless I know for certain there would be more than a few games on that console I would want to play but that would be an incentive to get one
game pass is basically games that you can access without buying. so you can play a game on game pass bc you have it and then, if you like it, buy it after or if you don't you didn't need to buy the game and get refunded/stuck with it.
kinda like a subscription/rental service? as long as you're paying the subscription you can download and play any game on game pass. since it's realtively cheap ($15 a month) it's definitely worthwhile instead of paying $50 for a game.
Game Pass is kind of a subscription. Like how Netflix is to shows and movies, except with Game Pass it's games. So you can play those games without having to technically buy them (as long as you have said ongoing subscription). But they can also leave Game Pass so that's something to keep in mind?
That sounds nice on paper but if a game I really liked leaves I would probably be upset lol. But I imagine you don't lose any save data, yeah? Just the ability to play the game on that service?
ngl that does sound like a nice deal. It kinda reminds of like, Gamefly? From the early 2000s? Or just renting video games in general, when that was a thing, now that I think about it. just digitized
Basically with Game Pass you get access to the range of games they have available. Kind of like a Netflix subscription. As long as the item is in their list, you can play it. Over time, it might leave their selection.
