for various reasons I think phenomenal consciousness is a thing and I don't think physicalism can explain that. well the reason i posted this specifically is i was watching a response video from some physicalists to a video arguing for mental privacy and I disagreed with them
Most would call me "dualist", but I believe in the 17 fundamental fields of physics, with an additional fundamental field of mind. I do not believe that the 17 fundamental fields of the standard model have mind.
yeah. watching a philosophy of mind video and he defines it more specifically in that context as "the philosophers who think consciousness is nothing over and above the physical material of the brain"
this isn't really proof of anything but it seems significant to me that this seems to idea fly in the face of all human culture, philosophy, folklore, etc through all time from the beginning of the archaelogical record with hardly any discussion, through like, basically the mid-18th century
i feel like most people at any level of education STILL don't like it and it's basically a vocal minority of mostly ducated humanist or marxist types and their online hangers-on that enthusiastically assert this or feel like it's common sense
yeah not proof but idk it says something to ME anyway
this dude does defend the common consent argument lol. i've heard it said that for a lot of people that claim to be materialist, when you ask them questions they turn out to be property duelists. of course the traditional view is substance dualism
property dualists as in, the physical and mental are the selfsame substance but different forms of it? (as opposed to just being neuron activations and that's it)
