I am the same if you can see the victims individually. And I always stop for side quests to rescue NPCs. But when I play Civilization games, I analways more than happy to sell off all the libraries to buy a nuclear missile and nuke an enemy city.
I physically can't bring myself to be mean to nice NPCs in Fallout but insult me once I'm shoving a plasma grenade in their inventory when they sleep then stealing everything.
I can't play most kill, kill, kill, loot games because aside from being boring, I just don't want to kill everything in sight. I like stealth and non-lethal games as a result.
Even in killy games like Mass Effect, I'll still play the good options... although I make an exception for Kai Leng...
I started a new character on Fallout 76 and was gonna RP as a raider. I made it to the first NPC social interaction and just couldn't do it. I can't even be mean to programed software. 😂
everyone with power in the real world is an asshole who uses it to hurt others for their own gain, so naturally my power fantasy is to help people and be nice about it.
i relate more to the npcs in any given town than my super soldier protagonist character, so hurting them feels like i'm hurting me

like they're just trying to live their simulacrum of a life, what did they do to deserve this kind of treatment??

and then i can’t bring myself to piss off my party companions or make them sad 🥲
