My feral has a heated cat house, also a second insulated wooden cat house that I put microwave heated discs in. She is VERY well taken care of and has no desire to come inside. I have a camera outside so I can see if she was safe overnight.
My cat is the son of a feral cat, and roaming outdoors is in his genes, big time! Maybe you can coax your kitty into a more comfy life? Heated cat bed, perhaps?
Hi to all of you. Last March I adopted two semi-feral boys @ 5 months old. Even young, transitioning them took MUCH time and much patience. I learned what their needs were (e.g. cat trees; height is important, etc) and did everything I could to ease the change. Please feel free to DM me!! 🐈⬛🐈⬛
He’s not quite three…
And he IS driving me crazy, trying to lead me to the patio door every time I stand up, yelling for the door to open, getting overly excited when I put on slippers or a sweater. He’s getting less frantic every day, though.
I recently watched a Jason Galaxy video regarding bird flu in cats . He spoke at length with a leading veterinary doctor on Florida who also referenced a leading scientist’s blog for updating current information. Scientist is in Canada so not a
MAGA flunky. Well worth seeking out.
This makes no sense since bird flu was made up by Biden to increase egg prices and cats don't lay eggs. Must be cats of those single unmarried cat ladies that voted for Kamala.
Yes, the mosquitoes infect the birds, and they were probably around the carcass. CDC recommends wearing gloves when handling dead animals to prevent disease direct transmission, or indirect transmission via parasites.
Yes, that is absolutely tragic. There ought to be a class action lawsuit over tainted raw food, because raw food has been a known source of H5N1 contamination since 50 odd cats died in Poland after eating it. The information is years old, but the industry is out for cash.
It would have been helpful if the article had given the names of the raw food that the cats were eating and what are the signs and symptoms to watch out for. Cats are superior at masking their pain and illnesses
It’s possible they ate wild birds that were infected.
That being said, I wouldn’t feed a cat any raw foods right now, regardless of brand. It’s not worth the risk, and I’m not convinced it’s much healthier than a high-quality kibble or wet food.
Yeah, we feed our cats Instinct Pure Protein duck and Fromm Gamebird duck & chicken kibble. I'm just hoping to the Universe that neither of these two dry kibble varieties or the Fancy Feast savory pate beef & salmon ones are not on the list of possibly contaminated food for cats.
So far I haven’t heard of any dry kibble or cooked wet foods being contaminated. If things get really bad I’ll start feeding my cat stuff like tinned chicken and tuna made for humans.

(Turns out “This is for your own good, sweetie.” flies as well with cats as it does with children.)

Geese (and probably other birds) are known to be carrying the bird flu.
So this is probably an interaction between the cats and some (infected) birds.
Tweety Bird pay back.
