Everyone complaining about the Pilot Con-40 converter needs to watch this video on the correct method of fully filling it. Filling with a syringe is a great way to make a mess. Filling with the converter attached is the way to go - just clear the air pocket mid-fill.

you can refill cartridges with any ink you want if you have a syringe & inky fingers are typical regardless of what method you use

I tried the syringe when it wouldn't fill the normal way. The ink went all over the counter. Half my ink is gone. I'm heading out to find Pilot cartridges tomorrow. 🙁

I love Pilots but the con-40 is a sin. I just reuse the plastic disposables. There is a way to refill and reseal as well.

Yeah, I have three con-40s in the sin bin , never use them. The disposables have more capacity and easier to refill. BTW the con-70 is quite good but only fits larger Pilots.

Not knowing which converter you are referring to, there is one large capacity converter that can be refilled with a syringe and blunt needle (or a sharp if you are careful).

It's a Pilot Con-40 and I did try filling it with a syringe, the ink spilled all over the counter (and sink and floor 🤣). I have it in my Pilot Kaküno pen, but it takes cartridges so I can switch to those. Luckily the ink wasn't the colour I was looking for. I'm hoping for better luck next time. 😊

I say a piece of junk - in theory you can refill it installed in a pen. It may have worked once "as advertised" but the times I remember having tried were pretty pitiful, so I don't even bother trying any more. Syringe is the way to go, for me. But I 'needle' everything - w/ beautiful bottled inks!

This pen might take the con-70, I'm looking into it, but in the meantime it still takes cartridges so it's fine. It's funny how many bad stories I'm finding about con-40. Next time I'll read the reviews first. 🤔😂

The thing about the con-40 is that it's almost everywhere as a Pilot standard 😂 To be fair, they probably wanted a converter that is compatible with almost every fountain pen they have. But I guess that also meant compromises!

The converter wouldn't fill so I tried the syringe and the ink spilled everywhere. Still barely got any in the converter. I'll only be using my Kakünos with cartridges from now on. It's funny because all my other converters fill so easily. 🤷
