Thank you for this. I've been worrying about how our military would respond and yours is the first reassuring thing I've seen. I hope this goes for the National Guard, too. I have a feeling the protests are going to amp up..as they should.

Yes. This. I used to think that a military takeover would be the absolute worst thing, but now I’m hoping for it.

I’m not at all clear though on the thinking of reasonable minds who remain in the military at high ranks. Hoping they’re quietly talking with government officials (of both parties).

He can't "fire" an officer like a civil servant. Removal isn't easy. Officers require senate confirmation. Promotions above O-4 require it as well. It can take weeks to months to remove an officer, if there is just cause, and there are nearly 240,000 in active duty alone. Then there's reservists..

This is one very solid reason why we should want a bigger military as opposed to a smaller one. The more officers there are, makes it less likely a dictatorship could ever take control of the military.

If we somehow get through this either by the public fighting or the military finally intervening, we need to get rid of political appointees of departments/agencies and give them their own security forces that answer to them directly.
