I grew up in Dundee during this period and I am pretty sure I didn’t even know what an ‘artichoke’ was, and olive oil was used to unclog our ears but this recipe from Anne Diamond does sound nice.

I don't even remember my 'boil everything' mother doing that. Or did she? I do remember a glutinous white sauce with, probably, boiled onions in it.
Note: Reader, her mother (my grandmother) was a cook in a 'stately home'. The gene didn't pass...!

Including this one because the Lord Provost was a lovely man sadly who died when quite young, and because it sounds utterly scrumptious.

We got a bottle of whisky from him when we got married. Might be enough left to make this!
