Any e-bike specialists here? Husband is looking for one at the moment and we are wondering why so many bikes nowadays don’t have a removable battery. We live on 3rd floor of an apartment building so it would be a right faff to lug the bike upstairs to charge it. - ThreadSky

I think most of them have removable (relatively light) batteries which are charged - no need to take the whole bike. I think.

The ones he was looking at didn’t have a removable battery. Maybe just coincidence but I wondered if it was a new thing that a lot of bikes don’t have this.

Ah, ok. The only e-bike I have direct knowledge of was a friend's one a few years ago. It definitely had a removable battery, but I think it was a top of the range model, as he's in the 'all the gear and no idea' camp.

We're looking/buying at the moment, and the bikes we were shown all had removable batteries (Cannondale, Cube) with separate chargers. (We're buying a Cannondale Mavaro Neo each, btw).

We shopped at BOC Frankfurt. Ebikes are a whole new world of tech: engine/battery size, Ketten- or Nabenschaltung, type of chain (ours have a carbon belt drive!), apps, GPS/e-lock etc.

We got good advice off BOC. One recommendation was for me to also get a "Tiefeinsteiger" model because a) the bike is fairly heavy and b) if you've got rear panniers, it's pretty difficult to get your leg over the pannier and the seat without losing your balance.
