Like no only does it immediately contextualize New Gods as NEW Gods, but it hints at an mythology so much more expansive than just what he did. The latter of which I see as half the fun of these big shared universes in the first place
The fact he would open his Fourth World saga with the symbolic destruction of Asgard and the "old" gods he had been chronicling over at Marvel is still one of the coolest damn things ever. "Epilogue" too. This entire run is magic.
