Harriet the Spy had just come out two months prior and Pete & Pete reruns were still running, so everyone in the school knew who she was. She was a grade younger than me (she wasn't supposed to be in that science class) so I never really interacted with her, but I saw her in the halls.

Mostly she seemed quiet. Normal. She'd roll her eyes when the most annoying kid in my class yelled "HI HARRIET HI HARRIET HI HARRIET" at her every time he saw her. I think I told him to stop but I might just be making myself better in my memories. It was 29 years ago.

Our middle school is listed on her Wikipedia page but she was only there for a year, or maybe less - she left to film some short-lived show no one watched and never came back. Maybe because of "HI HARRIET" behavior.

Anyway I failed out of Buffy after Season 4 and never watched Gossip Girl, but today I'm thinking a lot about that little girl with the Harriet the Spy button on her backpack, who wanted to come to a regular school, but wasn't quite sure how to do it gracefully.
