As I understand it SMRs are unlikely
to be cost effective, but if they were they would probably need a different regulatory framework. I suspect as you imply he's being led down an expensive end, presumably by the smell of some lobbying bucks.

The only way they can even get close to making them pay is to cut regulation and safety. Worth noting that only two SMRs have been built. Both went 500% over budget and took 13 years to build rather than the estimated 3. A third is 1000% over cost and after 15 years still isn’t built.

And that's just building them, maintaining them safely and decommissioning is likely to have been just as "favourably" costed in projection. Favourable for the seller that is, not us.

I've a suggestion.

Build them in Rwanda.

Aside from the logistical distribution difficulties, I'd suggest Rwanda would deliver a swift "fuck aff" to the proposal.

All of which proves...

Nuclear reactors are in fact more dangerous, and less desirable, than immigrants.

Just a thought.
