Yesterday, I joined colleagues from across Europe to discuss the challenges posed by authoritarianism, self-censorship, and the responsibilities we carry as journalists and analysts.

I chose journalism about 13 years ago, and since then, my path has evolved - I now work at a think tank, write as a political analyst, and continue reporting as a freelancer.
This work isn’t without consequences. I face threats, a potential prison sentence, and have been labeled a terrorist and extremist by the authorities in Belarus. I’m on wanted lists in Belarus, Russia, and across CIS.
Still, I believe in this work. Journalism can’t be faked, and I feel a deep sense of responsibility - especially to my colleagues who are imprisoned, and to the people who still live in Belarus. At this point, self-censorship isn’t really an option.
Ironically, being labeled a terrorist by the regime only clarified my reasons for continuing. That label doesn’t reflect who I am. I’ve always worked with Belarus’s future in mind, and I intend to keep doing so.
