They have replaced the two stage "direct" crossing of Amhurst with an even less direct crossing (red arrows) in the knowledge that pedestrians WILL chance it and walk across the carriageway here (purple arrow). This is a junction that will still see 10,000 vehicles per day (3/n)

AGAIN, the alt design presented by @hackneylcc.bsky.social with its improvements to the overall junction design would have allowed this crossing to be kept. So even the argument about ped. experience cannot be taken seriously. If @hackneycouncil.bsky.social really cared about ped safety (4/n)

They wouldn't be chucking pedestrians into a live carriageway. But here's the rub, they genuinely, bones-deep, just Do. Not. Believe. In. Cycle. Infrastructure. See here! Ppl can't be expected to cross 2m of bike lane! Never mind the 12m car lanes with 10k vehicles daily, what about the bikes!(5/n)

The absolute brass neck to say that people who cycle cannot be kept safe from harm because people walking can't be expected to "stop" to cross 2m of high contrast, high-spec, kerb-separated cycle track metres from a signalised pedestrian crossing at which they will wait up to 2min to go (6/n)

I'm particularly looking forward to local people demanding Hackney Police 'do something' about all the pavement cycling that will take place here. Followed by a crack down on young people cycling because council officers don't understand humans. It's pathetically predictable
