YES! In my city last winter, I saw someone crossing a bridge in traffic lanes on a mobility scooter because the city had buried the sidewalks when they cleared the streets. It's psychotic.

This is certainly more common than it should be in Hamilton, Ontario where this was taken. Perhaps things will change when the whole thing is converted to two-ways in the coming years. The city might give it more attention for once. Is a sad state of affairs regardless.

It's getting better! That section of Main St in #HamOnt now has a curb buffer lane, unsynchronized lights, and a slower average speed compared to when that photo was taken. Fragile progress!

When I lived in Lawrence KS, I cannot tell you how many times we had to walk home from work in the street because those were the only cleared spaces after a snow. The city left it to property owners to clear sidewalks in front of their property and you can imagine how well that went.

I don't understand why municipalities maintain the roads so promptly, they're out there *while it's still snowing* and sidewalks are individual property owners' responsibility. And if someone doesn't maintain "their" sidewalk, the onus is on the public to report them and maybe there's a consequence
